Fall Creeping In - August 30

Fall flowers are arriving!

Joe-Pye Weed (Eutrochium)

Flat-top White Aster (Doellingeria umbellata)

Devil's Beggarticks (Bidens frondosa)

Nodding Beggarticks (Bidens cernua)

There aren't many dragonflies left, but I spotted this lovely one:
Autumn Meadowhawk (Sympetrum vicinum)

There are some truly impressive spiders in the outhouse!
Fishing Spider (Dolomedes)

Isn't it neat that you can sometimes look at a tree and know exactly which species of bird was there, even though you've never seen it? The horizontal rows of pecking are characteristic of a yellow-bellied sapsucker woodpecker. They eat bark, tree sap, and insects.
